Stream Deck GuideFree apps for Windows & Linux Install

StreamController features

StreamController covers what Elgato's own app does on Windows, and adds a few Linux-specific things like window-based page switching and a scriptable command line.

Plugin store

Actions come from plugins, and plugins come from a store built into the app. Installing one takes a click; it shows up in the action list straight away. The store also carries icon packs and wallpaper packs, and you can publish your own plugin to it.

There are 74 plugins in the store right now, from OBS and Twitch to Home Assistant and Pi-hole. Browse them by category.

Pages and folders

A page is one full layout of keys. Make as many as you like, and give any key a “change page” action to jump between them. Each deck you own has its own active page, so a Mini and an XL can show different things at once.

Automatic page switching

Tie a page to a window and StreamController loads it when that window gets focus. Your music page appears when you click into Spotify; your editing page when you open Kdenlive.

Supported on GNOME (through a small GNOME Shell extension the app offers to install), KDE Plasma (with kdotool installed), Hyprland, Sway and any X11 session. Set it up.

Wallpapers and screensaver

Spread one image or video across all keys as a background, under your icons. A screensaver can show a picture or video after the deck has been idle for a while, and brightness is adjustable per deck.

Auto-lock

When your computer locks, the deck locks too, so nobody can fire your macros while you're away. It works on any session where systemd-logind reports the lock, with dedicated support for GNOME, KDE, Hyprland and Cinnamon.

Sticky actions

Some keys belong everywhere: a mic mute, a “home” page key. Mark one sticky and it appears on every page without copying it around.

Several decks at once

Plug in more than one Stream Deck and each gets its own pages and settings. Deck rotation is configurable for when a deck is mounted sideways or upside down.

Dials and touch strips

On the Stream Deck + and + XL, dials can be turned, pressed and held, and the touch strip takes its own wallpapers, which have a section in the store. More on the Stream Deck +.

Command line and D-Bus

While the app runs you can switch pages, change key states, emulate presses, set brightness or put a deck to sleep from the command line, with --json output for scripts. Pages can be created, renamed, exported and edited even when the app is closed. The same functions are exposed on D-Bus at com.core447.StreamController. Command reference.

What it doesn't do

  • It can't run plugins written for Elgato's Stream Deck software. Those are built for a different system.
  • It doesn't sync profiles with Elgato's app. Set up pages fresh, or import pages shared by others as .scpage files.
  • It isn't for Windows or macOS. On those, use Elgato's own software.

Plug it in and start mapping keys.

StreamController is free. Download the zip, run one script, and plug your deck in.
